We take a thoughtful, multidisciplinary approach to admissions. Camphill is best suited to adults with mild intellectual disabilities. While we may consider individuals with dual diagnoses, our focus remains on those whose primary support needs are not medical or psychiatric.

Before you apply
The best way to understand Camphill is to experience it. We encourage prospective applicants and families to visit our monthly market, held on the first Sunday of every month, and get a feel for the life, rhythm, and community here.

MarketsCamphill is well suited to young adults (18 to 40) who:
Enjoy being active and outdoors
Take part in meaningful, hands-on work
Feel comfortable in a simple, nature-based environment
Who qualifies to apply?
The applicant must:
- Be over 18 and under 45 at time of application
- Have a professional diagnosis of intellectual or cognitive disability
- Be able to manage personal care independently
- Be physically mobile across farm distances
- Be willing and able to participate in daily work
- Be able to live respectfully within a community
- Preferably be in receipt of a SASSA Disability Grant, or be willing to apply with assistance
- Have made an informed, long-term decision to live at Camphill
Who may be unsuitable as applicants?
This may include people who need:
- Ongoing nursing or specialised medical care
- Wheelchair access or significant mobility support across uneven terrain
- Primary psychiatric or severe behavioural support
- Highly structured or contained environments
Our aim is always to ensure the right fit, for both the individual and the community.
The process
How does someone become a resident of Camphill Village?
Step 1: Application
Submit a completed application form with all required documents.
Applications are carefully reviewed, and suitable candidates are placed on a waiting list until a matching opportunity becomes available.
Step 2: Interview
Applicants and families meet with our team to explore suitability and alignment. Where needed, we may guide families toward alternative options.
Step 3: Trial Placement
A three-month trial allows applicants to experience daily life: living in a home, participating in work, and becoming part of the community.
Step 4: Evaluation
The trial is reviewed by our care and work teams. If successful, long-term placement is confirmed in partnership with the resident and their family.
The placement is evaluated by:
- Group Home Leader
- Health and Wellbeing Team
- Enterprise Leaders
- Other relevant stakeholders
If successful
- The applicant may return home for a short break.
- Once long-term placement is confirmed by the applicant and family, a return date is set, and admission paperwork is finalised.
Probation Period
The first 6 to 12 months are a settling-in period, for both the resident and the community.
Support includes structured orientation, work rotations, therapies, and regular check-ins to ensure a good and lasting fit.
A Lifelong Commitment
Camphill is not a temporary placement. It is a home.
We follow a lifelong care philosophy, supporting residents to live here with dignity and purpose over the long term.
Lifelong care commitment
Our aim is to provide lifelong care, provided that long-term financial provision is secured and the resident's medical, mental health and behavioural needs remain within our capacity to support.
- What is the monthly contribution?
We use a tier system based on care needs, determined by assessment from the Wellness Team.
- Does the applicant need a SASSA Disability Grant?
Preferably yes. Assistance can be provided with applications.
Until the grant is active, the full contribution is payable by sponsors or parents. Thereafter only the shortfall is payable.
- Can families visit the village?
We encourage first visits via our monthly market. Individual visits during operational hours are limited.
- Does each resident have their own room?
Yes. Rooms are private. Bathrooms are shared.
